Ketogenic Diet and Fat Bombs: What is a Fat Bomb? It's delicious!

What's a fat bomb? Have you heard of the ketogenic diet or keto diet?

It's a way of eating that has 65-80% of a day's calories come from fat. 15-30% protein and less than 5% carbohydrate.

It can be a really helpful way of eating for short term, ~3 months (though I do have some colleagues that have benefitted from more long term)

Keto is especially helpful for anything to do with the brain 🧠. From epilepsy to ADHD to Alzheimer's. It can also be helpful for hormones and weight loss.

What?! Eating fat can help you lose fat?? Yes indeed!

Part of why the keto diet is so special is because it completely alters your metabolism and puts you in a state of ketosis. Meaning you use ketones as your main fuel instead of the normal glucose.

OK so what's a fat bomb? The "F" in fat bomb stands for friggin delicious. Basically, it's a way for people on the keto diet to get extra fat in throughout the day.

As you can imagine, it can be hard to get in 65-80% of your calories from fat. Here is my favorite fat bomb recipe thus far:

Cheesecake Bombs with Chocolate Frosting

5 oz cream cheese

2 oz melted butter

Beat together

Add 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted (~2oz melted)

7 drops liquid stevia

1 tsp vanilla extract

Pour into muffin tins. Pro tip: use silicone. Don't have it? Use paper liners. Don't use just metal. It's very hard to remove...learned that the hard way.

Freeze for 20 minutes

Frosting

1/2 cup coconut oil, melted (~4 oz melted)

3 drops liquid stevia

1 tsp cocoa powder

Pour frosting on top and freeze for 4 hours. Then eat up!!

Enjoy!
